Intraoperative peritoneal lavage cytology offers prognostic significance for gastric cancer patients with curative resection
Outcomes of patients with gastric cancer who exhibit positive peritoneal lavage cytology findings (CY+ ) vary by diagnostic methods because of quantitative and qualitative cancer cell diversity. This study sought to establish practical diagnostic criteria for performing curative resections, based on peritoneal lavage cytology findings in gastric cancer patients. We enrolled 1028 patients with g...

متن کاملIntraoperative pleural lavage cytology is an independent prognostic indicator for staging non-small cell lung cancer.
OBJECTIVES For patients undergoing lung resection for cancer, macroscopic evidence of metastasis is clearly associated with adverse prognosis. However, less is known about the significance of tumor cells detected by using tests such as pleural lavage cytology. To ascertain the frequency and quantify the effect of this finding on survival, we performed a prospective study of intraoperative pleur...
متن کاملPositive Intraoperative Peritoneal Lavage Cytology is a Negative Prognostic Factor in Pancreatic Ductal Adenocarcinoma: A Retrospective Single-Center Study
OBJECTIVE The aim of this study is to evaluate the prognostic significance of intraoperative peritoneal lavage cytology (PLC) in pancreatic invasive ductal adenocarcinoma. METHODS Intraoperative PLC was evaluated in 162 patients with resectable pancreatic invasive ductal adenocarcinoma. The results were analyzed for correlations with clinicopathological parameters and/or prognoses. RESULTS ...
متن کاملFine needle aspiration cytology of gastric carcinoma.
Four patients between 58 and 81 years of age undergoing investigation and endoscopic biopsy for gastric carcinoma also were subjected to direct-vision fine needle aspiration cytology of their mucosal lesions which yielded malignant cells. The relevance of this technique is discussed regarding both intrinsic and extrinsic lesions of the gastrointestinal tract.
